Learn the Names of Trees in German

Saw an article in our weekly paper, the Eppsteiner Zeitung, about how Eppstein-Bremthal has added new stations to their forest adventure path ("Waldlehrpfad") off L3017 towards Wildsachsen. Exploring the path was so much fun I wish I'd known about it when the children were learning to identify trees for school.

Today we only had time for the first part of the path; the full 4-kilometer nature trail through the Hochtaunus Nature Preserve from Bremthal to Wildsachsen takes 1 1/2 hours. We took the path to the right and enjoyed trying to guess the names of the trees, including giant Douglas firs
("Douglasie"), then opening the wooden tablets to discover whether we were right or not (mostly not).

We look forward to when we have more time to walk to the section where you can go barefoot over pine cones, stones, and bark mulch, and lie in a hammock!
