Explore Eppstein-Bremthal

Bremthal, founded by the Lords of Eppstein in the 10th/11th century, is a five-minute drive west on the B455 highway towards Wiesbaden.

Bremthal's church, St. Margareta, was built in 1889. Like Vockenhausen's St. Jakobus, the church has a baptismal font (1749) from an earlier church on the site.

My sons have had Kulturkreis arts-and-crafts classes in Bremthal's former "Backhaus." The brick building with communal oven was built in 1900 and used until 1950; the preserved oven still functions.

Eppstein's Kulturkreis has a large selection of courses and activities, including an English Stammtisch in Bremthal, which gets English-speaking people together with Germans interested in cultural exchange. The "Stammtisch" meets the second Friday of the month at 8 p.m. at Im Schützenhof (Neugasse 7, Bremthal).

The Lords founded Bremthal because the narrow valley around their castle did not allow for arable land; if you look carefully, you can still see some of Bremthal's farm buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries (Wiesbadener Str. 31, Bornstraße 1, 3, and 5).

A small skate park and forest adventure path off the Wildsachsenerstraße are fun for children.
