Visit Eppstein's Library

Saturday mornings are always good for stopping by Eppstein's library, housed in a couple rooms of Alt-Eppstein's courthouse. The rooms are not as fancy and well-equipped as Anglo-American libraries, but I have to admire the volunteer staff who donate their time, so Eppsteiners can check out books, audiobooks, and CD's. The librarians are very friendly and will try to fill any book wishes if possible. There is even one shelf with English books.

The building itself was built in 1928 as a school for Eppstein and was used as such until the current elementary (grades 1-4) and middle schools (grades 5-10) were built on the Bienroth. The building with extension now houses the courthouse and community center. The town's chess and bridge clubs, for example, meet regularly in the rooms in the back; there is even a "Kegelbahn" (something like a bowling alley), which can be rented.

The library is open Tuesdays and Fridays 3-7 p.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays 10-12 a.m.
